Anthony

Anthony, originally from Australia, came to Thailand in 1991 and lived on the islands for a time, working as a land agent. Four years after moving to Thailand, he became interested in Buddhism and met a master at the forest monastery of Wat Don Phut, marking the beginning of his spiritual journey. Inspired by Buddhism, Anthony became a monk and dedicated himself to the practice and study of the Dhamma.

About a year after the master’s death, Anthony traveled to Burma, where he spent five rainy seasons. He then returned to Thailand. He spent 11 years as a monk at various temples in Burma and Thailand, returning home to Melbourne in 2006. Anthony earned a bachelor’s degree in gemology—the study of precious stones—from a local university.

He worked for a time in a gemstone trading company and lived a simple life. A few years ago, Anthony quit his job, sold his property, and returned to Thailand to devote himself full-time to meditation.

For several years, Anthony was a resident teacher at Wat Kou Tahm Monastery on Koh Phangan, Thailand. Students who attended his retreats speak of them with great enthusiasm. They appreciate Anthony’s keen understanding of Buddhist teachings, including his enthusiasm, interest, and clarity. Anthony is well versed in the Pali Canon, which preserves the Buddha’s teachings. He devotes considerable attention to explaining Satipatthana, or the four foundations of mindfulness.
